BALTIMORE, May 26 - Hollyday Sothoron Compton, prominent in sportsman and banking circles and widely known in society, was found dead of a bullet wound at his home in Carrison (sic), Baltimore County, today.
- Depression due to ill health resulting from a fall while horseback riding last September, when Mr. Compton suffered a broken leg and other injuries, is thought by members of the family to have led to the shooting. Mr. Compton was in a hospital for many weeks.
- This morning Mr. Compton's wife and her mother, Mrs. Charles E. Phelps, were at breakfast. A shot was herd from the second floor, and when the women reached Mr. Compton's room they found him dying, with a pistol at his side.
- Mr. Compton was about 32, one of the four sons of Key Compton, for years the president of the Chesapeake Steamship Company. He had been associated with Gillet & Co., bankers.
- The accident which resulted in the injury to Mr. Compton occurred at Owings' Mills on Sept. 11. He fell from the horse and the horse fell and rolled on him.
- Surviving Mr. Compton are his widow, who was Miss Elizabeth G. Phelps; a daughter, 5 years old, and a son, 1 year old; his mother and three brothers, Randall, Beverly and Sothoron Compton. (New York Times :22, Garrison, Baltimore Co., MD, 1930.05.26, Reported 1930.05.27)

- Mrs. Compton wore a gown of beige sheer crepe and a rose-red hat. Miss Sally Taylor Compton was her mother's maid of honor, wearing a dress of turquoise blue.
