Charles Llewellyn Briscoe, M.D., c. 1799 - c. 1880
- Born at Chaptico, St. Mary's County about 1799, Dr. Charles L. Briscoe was the son of John Briscoe and Jane Llewellyn.
- He was educated at Charlotte Hall Military Academy then graduated in 1823 from the University of MD School of Medicine in Baltimore.
- He was appointed Censor in 1840 to report anyone practicing medicine without a license.
- In 1843, he owned a house in Chaptico and was worth $1800 in real estate and $2217 in personal property. He moved from Chaptico to nearby Allen's Fresh in Charles County by 1850 as he is enumerated there in the 1850 Census.
- Dr. Briscoe applied for a marriage license in St. Mary's County on February 16, 1830 to marry Catherine Leigh (sic). Their children were:
- - - John Augustine, b. ca. 1830, marr. May 1, 1854 Elizabeth S. Mettee in Baltimore. He d. March 5, 1904 at his home near Hollinsfield Station, B&O RR, age 74.
- - - Columbus, b. ca. 1835.
- - - Robert, b. ca. 1838.
- - - Jane Margaret, b. September 8, 1839, baptized June 4, 1840 at Chaptico.
- - - M. (a son), b. ca. 1842.

- His wife is not in the 1850 Census. She died between 1844 and 1850. Dr. Charles L. Briscoe died in Charles County, MD near the Wicomico River about 1880.
