"Death of a Surgeon. - Dr. Benjamin Hodges of the U.S. Army died in Washington on Saturday. He was a native of St. Mary's County, MD. Although he had acquired enlarged experience in his profession, he was only (blurred) years of age. He had been troubled for a long time with a bronchial infection but it was only within the last few days that his disease assumed the form which terminated his promising

Dr. Benjamin F. Hodges was born in St. Mary's Co. ca. 1834.
He graduated from the Medical Department of Georgetown College on March 24, 1858 at the lecture room of the Smithsonian Institute. Other St. Mary's Countains graduating at the time were Dr. J. Felix Morgan and Dr. Samuel Eccleston Spalding.
Dr. Hodges served in the U. S. Army during the Civil War.
He practiced medicine in Washington City and died there December 31, 1863, age twenty-nine years and ten months. His obituary stated that he was formerly from St. Mary's Co.
