** Obituary (found in Burke-Gardiner Bible*)
OBITUARY - Departed this life on Saturday morning. at 8 o'clock, A M., after a brief and sudden illness, of conjestion of the lungs, at the residence of her son-in-law, Col. J. B. Burke, in Brandon. Mrs. Eleanor Gardiner, aged 77 years, 8 months and 20 days. - The deceased was a native of St. Mary's county, Maryland, and resided in Washington City a number of years previous to 1837, at which time, in companq with her relatives, she removed to this place where she has since lived the greater portion of her time. At an early period of life, she made a public profession of religion, and has ever since been a devoted member of the Episcopal church.- Few persons indeed, have attained to the same lengthened period of existence, and fewer still have reached that high degree of usefulness and exalted worth. She displayed in an eminent degree, those qualities of the heart that ornament and adorn the character of woman. These qualities, united with a mind naturally strong and vigorous, enabled her in a superior manner to meet all those changes and vicissitudes of fortune that beset the pathway of life. As a mother, she was devotedly kind and affectionate; as a. friend, true-hearted, faithful and sincere. Her warmest sympathies were ever excited by the calls of distress, and many of the pleasures of her lengthened years flowed from a discharge of the duties of a kind and disinterested beneveolence. - A large circle of relatives and friends, to whom she was ardently attached by the strongest ties of affection and esteem, will deeply mourn the departure of one whom it may most truly be said , "died in a good old age."

Sherier, who recently died, has been brought. Louisa Sothoron and others are the plaintiffs, and the sons of Conrad Sherier-James T., John C., William H., and Michael-are the defendants. - The farm was willed to Michael and James T. Sherier on condition that they should cultivate it for the support of themselves and their mother. In case this was not done Mrs. Sherier could dispose of the land as she saw fit. The defendants, who are the other heirs-at-law, claim that Mrs. Sherier was permitted by her sons to suffer the necessaries of life and that the farm was not cultivated, but neglected. - The two sons prevailed upon their mother, it is asserted, when she was in her dotage, to join with James T. Sherier in deeding the tract to Michael Sherier. The court is asked to annul this deed and to order a sale of the property, that the proceeds may be distributed among the heirs. E. B. Hay is the attorney for the plaintiffs. (Washington Post :8, Reported 1892.08.16)
