Payton of the Corps United States' Artillery is entitled to one hundred and sixty acres of land, to be located agreeably to the said act on any unlocated parts of the six millions of acres appropriated by law for the original grantees of such military warrants; and this warrant is not assignable or transferable in any manner whatever.

Petition to Loudon County court, complaining that the signees were at a disadvantage due to the length of road for which they were responsible to maintain. The road, from Piney Branch to Little River, was 7 or 8 miles in length. They request that the road and company be distinctly divided at Saml. Wikesoffs spring into two separate districts. Beginning at said Haddox's upper corner adjoining land of Zachariah Lyon, thence with his line square with the Old Field across to the said Haddox's line on the East side of the Walnut Cabin Branch, thence north to a white Oake corner and from thence west to the beginning." For term of 15 years, with rental of �1.10 payable annually, starting from 1 Jan 1787. White to not waste any timber on said property, and to keep fences in good repair. Kimler to have & hold lands, to pay one peppercorn rent on Lady Day next if demanded, to the intent that by virtue of these presents and by force of Statute for transferring uses into possession the said Kimler may be in actual possession of premises & thereby enabled to accept a release of inheritance to him & his heirs. - John Theodore Haddox was among the early merchants of El Monte, Los Angeles County, California, arriving from Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was educated, in 1876. He was a descendant of an old mercantile family of Virginia of German ancestry. Mr. Haddox also combined real estate and an insurance business with his mercantile enterprise and served as both postmaster and justice of the peace in El Monte.
- In 1886 Mr. Haddox married Victoria Mayes, daughter of Dr. Thomas A. Mayes, one of the pioneer physicians of Los Angeles County and a resident of El Monte at the time of his death in 1873.
- Nine children, six who survived into adulthood: Victor, Philip, Dorothy, Hilda, Miriam, Marjorie.
- Born 1858, died 19 April 1920.
