Capt. George Brent attorney of Charles Rose the attorney of Benjamin Haddock of Charles County in Province of Maryland complaining sheweth that Edward Hudgson stands indebted to the said Haddock for sundry goods wares & merchandizes sold him the deft in Province of Maryland and in the year 1683 the deft then living there the sum of 1990 pounds of Tobacco and cask as will appear by the accot. of particulars sworn by the said Haddock before a magistrate of that province.That soon after the debt was contracted by the said Hudgson he privately removed himself out of the said province and could never be found there since to be demanded the same nor ever did Take care to make any provision for the payment the Plt. Wherefore by his attorney he hath brought his action and prays Judgment for the debt And Edward Hudgson by Robert Collis his attorney comes into Court and for pleas saith Nil debet And now forasmuch as Charles Rose could not aver Justifie and maintain his action as is alledged. James Haddock witnessed an indenture for lease of 200 acres of land in Stafford Co., VA by Thos. Clifton of Stafford Co., VA, from Mary Watkins of Prince George's County, MD & her son Emme. (Sparacio(3)* :160 - Agreed 31 Aug 1703, Recorded 14 Jan 1708)
At a Charles Co. [Maryland] Court held at Port Tobacco on 11 November 1703 there was an action by Gerrald Newton, Plt. agt. John Elliott, Deft., regarding a debt of 400 lb. Tobo. John Elliott was represented by James Haddock, his attorney. The action had been extended several times, and was this date decided for the plaintiff since, according to his attorney, the plaintiff had been unable to recover an answer from his client. On 27 November 1707 Charles Calvert of Stafford Co., VA, Gent., to James Neale of Charles Co., MD, Gent. For 1,000 pounds of tobacco, 600 acres, part of 3,000 acres on Piscataway [River] in Charles Co. which was granted to Wm. Calvert, Esqr., father to Charles, and the said 600 acres was given or intended to be given in marriage with Eliza., daughter of Wm. Calvert to James Neale. Charles Calvert doth impower Mr. James Hoddert, Mr. James Haddock or Mr. Joshua Cecill to acknowledge in Prince George's Co. Court in Maryland this release.
