Sewell Charles S. [Male]
Person ID: 993

Charles S. & Maria Sewall vs Cornelia & John Sothoron, Samuel T. Wright
- Maria, the daughter & devisee of Clement Sewell Esq dec'd, was to receive 2,000 at age of 16 or at marriage. Her mother, the executrix, married John Sothoron in August of 1798, who applied thru Orphans Court in Queen Anne's Co for delivery to him of the entire estate, which was granted. Maria turned 16 in March 1800, applied to John Sothoron for her legacy, which she claims was refused. He admits to the above, noting that as a surety of the estate, was justly alarmed at extravagances of the executrix in the Summer & Fall of 1797, "...and at the prospects there were of her connecting herself with the defendant John Sothoron the man she afterwards unhappily married." He applied for control of the estate to protect it, but much of it had already been lost.
- Bond for 10,000 for Cornelia Sewell as administrator of the estate of Clement Sewell, to provide proper inventory and account, with James OBryan Sen. & Samuel Turbott as sureties; dated 8 May 1795.
- Bond for 300 for Samuel Turbott Wright & William Clayton Bordley of Queen Anne's Co, bound unto John Sotheron & Cornelia his wife, in that the former's legacy had been satisfied. Dated 9 March 1798. (Chancery Papers 4846, Queen Anne's Co., MD, 1800.12.04)
