MORRISTON, Fla. - Former Elwood resident Morris Linville Alvey, 89, of Morriston, Fla., died Feb. 19, 2008, at Williston Rehabilitation Center in Williston, Fla., after an extended illness. - He was born Nov. 28, 1918, in Tipton County. He formerly worked at Pinkerton as a security guard. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was the recipient of four Purple Heart awards during his service. He was a member of the American Legion in Dunnellon, Fla. He enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, and he moved to Florida in 1999. - Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Hartsock) Alvey of Morriston, Fla., whom he married on May 21, 1976; five sons, Ed and wife Elizabeth Alvey of Anderson, the Rev. Stan and wife Becky Alvey of Elwood, the Rev. Steve and wife Linda Alvey of Frankton, Glen Alvey of Elwood, and J.D. and wife Diane Matlin of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Nancy and husband Steve Hudson of Elwood, LeAnn and husband Daryl Napper of Elwood, and Shirley Batchelor of Yulee, Fla.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Estel Donaldson of Williston, Fla. - He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Sarah E.
