- Charles "Shannon" Zibell, 84, Holton, died March 25, 2008, at Holton Community Hospital. He was born July 6, 1923, in Holton, the son of Fred and Violet M. Shannon Zibell. He had lived all his life in Holton. Mr. Zibell was drafted into the U.S. Army after high school. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operation for three years as a member of the 172nd Infantry, 43rd Division. He was a farmer and stockman and also worked with Petree Propane for 33 years before he retired. He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Holton, a member of Holton Lodge 42 AF&AM and Jackson County Senior Citizens Center and a life member of Holton VFW Post 1367. He married Norma M. Arnold on May 27, 1947, in Holton. She died June 27, 2003. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Zibell. Survivors include a son, Harold Lynn Zibell, Topeka; a brother, Harold "Zeke" Zibell, Topeka; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a niece, Jenny Zibell. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 28 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 27 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangel United Methodist Church or Jackson County Senior Citizens Center, sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
