SOTHORON, MARTHA . . Marlow Heights
Education
(1970 Yearbook, University of Maryland College Park, page 185)

Mentioned by married name in mother's obituary of 1984 (see her Notes).

- "Martie" Sothoron Donovan of Reno, NV passed away on the morning of Monday, November 16, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family.
- Martie (Aeezie) was born March 21, 1945 in Washington, DC, together with her twin sister, Margaret (Beezie), the daughter of Levin Johnson Sothoron Jr. and Martha Huie Sothoron. After graduating from Anacostia High School, she worked for a short time at the Washington Navy Yard where she met William (Bill) Donovan at age 18. They dated for several years before they married on March 31, 1970. She then joined Bill in London, England where he was working, and had a wonderful year sightseeing, traveling throughout the United Kingdom and visiting France, Austria and Greece. They moved to White Plains, MD upon returning to the States and she completed her BS degree in Education from the University of Maryland. She continued to enjoy developing her artistic skills, both painting and sketching, as well as greatly involving herself in the activities of the neighborhood and her Church, St. Joseph's, Pomfret, MD, where she sang in the choir. The birth of her son Michael (Mike) William Donovan of Highland, MD in April 1974 was the high point of her life.
- Besides being a Special Education Teacher, she worked in real estate and was a graphics editor for several years, first in the private sector and later for the Federal Government.
- In 1998, Martie and Bill moved to Reno, NV where her twin sister Beezie, an Operating Room nurse at the VA Medical Center, and her husband Steve lived. Martie also worked at the VA Medical Center until her retirement. Her only regret was that Mike remained in Maryland; trips there became treasured. The Reno neighborhood soon became a major part of her retired life, becoming the "secretary" for the Bunco ladies as well as the coordinator for the social gatherings of the retired VA Operating Room nurses. Her love of family, art, animals, travel and of everyone she encountered dominated her life. All who met her were universally drawn to her personality, smile and grace. Friendships she made during her pre-teen years have continued to the present day.
- Martie was preceded in death by her parents Levin and Martha Sothoron, and several much loved uncles and aunts. Martie is survived by her loving husband, Bill Donovan, their son, Mike Donovan, her sister Ellen Morvick (Jim) and their children Jennifer Kirby (Sean) and Catherine Roe (Greg), her twin sister Beezie Bradhurst (Steve) and their children Megan Solaro (David) and Amanda Bradhurst, and her sister-in-law Catherine Salvucci (Orfeo), brothers-in-law James Donovan (Mary) and Paul Donovan (Linda) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.
- A special thanks is given to a dedicated care giver, Ashley, who became part of the family.
- A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Snows, Reno, NV, on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer is suggested. A celebration of life will be planned for the near future. A celebration of life will be planned for the near future.
