Charles Parke Pierson, 51, of Fredericksburg died Monday, March 13, 2006.
A native of Fredericksburg, Parke was a graduate of James Monroe High School and Lynchburg College. He was a member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a life member and past captain of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad, past president of the Rappahannock Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Parke also served on many community service organization boards.
He worked at Fredericksburg Savings & Loan for 25 years as a vice president, and then became an appraiser for Spotsylvania County.
Survivors include his wife, Jan; and children, Daniel and his wife, Anne, Jessica, Christopher and Emily; his brother, Richard Pierson; three nieces; and one nephew.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Larry Haun and the Rev. Patti English officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the church.

- Dr. James Waring was born in Prince George's Co., MD ca. 1810 and in early life moved to St. Mary's Co. where he practiced medicine for half a century. He was the son of Edward Gantt Waring, who married Catherine (nee) Waring in Prince George's Co., MD on September 8, 1808. - Dr. Waring was educated at George Washington University where he received his medical degree in 1831. He was a highly respected and skilled physician, keeping pace with Pathology and Therapeutics. He was an adept serious devotee to literature and the past and present. At the Maryland Historical Society, Baltimore are two Day Books (ms. 875) kept by Dr. Waring between 1832-1839. His entry on Chaptico May 8, 1835: "Commences boarding with Robert Hammett, this day at dinner for $175 per year for house, board, and boy's hire and stabling." The diary lists 20 or more patients, and treatments were opium plaster, cathartics, sulpha quinine. He notes that Governor Thomas sent him 15 bushels of oats and 4 cwt of fodder. - Dr. Waring married and raised a large family at the very old frame house Southhampton near Chaptico, said to have been built in the 17th century by Richard Bond. It was destroyed by fire on April 4, 1943. On June 26, 1838, Dr. Waring married Ann Maria Thomas (1817-1901), daughter of Dr. James Thomas (1785-1845) also Governor of Maryland and Elizabeth Courts (1789-1851), both of St. Mary's Co. Dr. and Mrs. - Waring had children: --- Elizabeth Catherine (aka Kate Elizabeth), b. ca. 1839; d. July 16, 1896 of dropsy, age 57, unmarr. at Southhampton, buried at Deep Falls. --- James Jr., b. March 1841, Attended Georgetown University. Enlisted September 10, 1862, at Charlottesville, VA in Company B, 1st MD Cavalry. Muster roll of August 1863 shows him captured in battle of Monterey Springs and imprisoned at Point Lookout. After the war, he marr. Maria Garner. He d. September 25, 1878, age 38, of memingitus (sic) and was buried at Chaptico. --- Edward (Ned), b. February 13, 1843. Also in Company B 1st MD Cavalry. Ned was killed in the battle of Bunker Hill, VA, September 3, 1862. --- Henry William, b. March 11, 1845. --- Basil, b. ca. 1847, d. young. --- Elizabeth Thomas, b. July 22, 1850. --- Ann Maria (Nannie), b. ca. 1855, married Samuel Bond Hayden. --- Mary Marsham, b. January 27, 1858; d. October 27, 1862, age 4 years, 9 mos. - Dr. James Waring was arrested twice in 1862 by the Federal Military, and jailed as a southern sympathizer. - Dr. Waring died at his residence, Southampton on January 19, 1883, leaving a wife, three daughters, one son and two grandchildren.
