James Burroughs died on Thursday night last, son of Mary E. and John William Burroughs of this county. The death of this interesting child, of 7 summers, was the result of an internal injury he suffered the previous day while incautiously approaching a vicious horse. The animal, affrighted, kicked him in the side and the child, so lately in the full enjoyment of blossoming health and exuberant spirits, was carried back, pale and anguished to his bed, from which he rose no more. MICHAEL SOTHORON GEORGE
- COLLEGE STATION - Mike George, 51, of College Station, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2014. A time for family to receive friends will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Hillier Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 3100 Cambridge Dr. in Bryan with Pastor Brian Brown officiating.
- Mike was born on April 13, 1963 to Michael Ann (Stoner) Ruddock in San Antonio, Texas and was raised in Eagle Pass and Victoria, Texas. He graduated from Victoria High School in Victoria, Texas in 1981 and attended Southwest Texas State University to study Journalism. Over his long and successful career in the news, he worked in Austin, Atlanta, and Las Vegas, but was able to start and end his career at KBTX in College Station. He retired in order to spend more time with his loving family.
- Mike gave generously of himself and his resources to friends, families, and strangers. The joys of his life were his wife, children, and family. He is described by his children as a loving father who did everything he could for his children and was always proud of them, no matter what. His passions included exercising, traveling, and news of any kind. He had a humorous and contagious personality, and he enveloped everyone he met in warmth.
- He is preceded in death by his father, Sothoron George.
- Mike leaves behind his loving wife, Ginnie George; children, Geoffrey George, Mary Elizabeth George, Julianna George; parents, Michael Ann and Billy Ruddock; siblings, Evans George and wife Esther, and Elizabeth George and husband Rick; nieces, Avery and Ryan Rosenblum, and many family members and friends.
