Mrs. Mary Wildman, one of London's oldest residents, died at her home on East First street, Wednesday [29 December] afternoon about 1:30 o'clock, after a short illness.
- For many years Mrs. Wildman had been in poor health, but her indomitable will kept her up and active. She had not been very well of late, but was up town Thursday evening last week. On Sunday she was taken with a heavy cold which settled in her lungs. She passed away quietly and unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Wildman was born at Poolsville, Mc., and was a daughter of Henry and Ann Sothorn. She came with her parents to Lafayette, Ohio, when she was a small child. The trip to Ohio was made in a big wagon. After a short sojourn in Lafayette, the family moved to London, and Mrs. Wildman had been a resident of the city ever since.
- On Dec. 10, 1850, she was married to Lewis Prestly Wildman, a prominent London grocer. To them seven children were born, five of whom are living. Mr. Wildman died about 21 years ago.
- Mrs. Wildman leaves the following children: Mrs. Minnie Clark, Mrs. Ella McClean, McClellan Wildman, B. F. Wildman and Mrs. Blanche Carmichael, all residents of London. She also is survived by three grandchildren. Mrs. William Recob of Columbus is a sister.
- Mrs. Wildman was a member of the Universalist church, but since the discontinuance of services here, she had given her assistance to the Presbyterian church.
- The funeral will be held at the home, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Carl H. White. Interment at Oak Hill cemetery. (Weller* - London Times, Reported 1915.12.30)

DR. MERRITT ON TRIAL.
-------
Easton Physician, After Forfeiting Bail, Returns to Face Charges.
Special to The Washington Post.
Easton, Md., Nov. 26-Dr. James B. Merritt appeared in court here today to answer to the charge of having performed an unlawful operation upon Emerald L. Sothoron, the 18 year-old daughter of Thomas J. Sothoron, of this city. Dr. Merritt's presence was a surprise, for since November 24, 1908, when he was indicted, his whereabouts were unknown to the officers of the law. His bail of $5,000 had been forfeited when he failed to appear at the May term of court.
- Some of the evidence so far seems damaging to Dr. Merritt, especially that of the dead girl's mother, who said on the stand that she saw him perform the operation, and after the removal of the child ordered her to burn the infant.
- Dr. Merritt's case is regarded as most sensational in many respects. He had been practicing medicine here for more than 23 years. The sheriff of Caroline county is here with a warrant for Dr. Merritt on a similar charge. (Washington Post :3, Reported 1909.11.27)
